9 March 2009: DINKEL'S BAKERY TO RECEIVE ELUSIVE SIXTH STAR
My birthday was last week and my boyfriend decided to get my cake from Dinkel's. As is well-publicized, I enjoy their doughnuts A LOT. So he calls and orders me a chocolate layer cake with strawberries and then thinks to ask: "Can we put a chocolate doughnut on top?" Without a pause, the woman taking the order asked him, "Did you want anything written on the doughnut?" (by the way-- the doughnut-topped cake was phenomenal and was a hilarious addition to my birthday soiree...)
THIS PLACE IS HEAVEN. :)
Honestly, for the money, this is easily one of my favorite bakeries I've ever had-- everything is made well, well-priced and they clearly care about their customers. Kudos!
Excellent cake, excellent service. I had an overwhelming week and didn't have a chance to order the cake for my son's birthday. When I woke up on Sat. morning, I called immediately and they told me that they would be able to do the cake since I had called before 10 AM. The person was very helpful walking me through the options. The cake was ready for pick up on Sunday morning. The Elmo design looked wonderful. Everyone loved the cake, including the birthday boy... and now the cake will be forever engrained in our family photo album! Great job!
Oh, the Sophisticakes. Really, you can't go wrong with any confection here. You can taste the love and attention. I haven't tried any of their savories yet, but have heard good things. But I digress from the Sophisticakes: your own personal heaven, filled like a hostess, presented like a cupcake but sooo much better. A friend of mine turned me on to them & she raved until I had to try one. I love her and hate her for introducing me to them because they might be addictive.
Another delicious find: lowfat bran muffins in the refrigerated case. They come 6 in a pack, and are very moist and flavorful and not so bad for you either, based on the nutritional information (lotsa fiber, lower in calories & fat than you'd ever expect from the taste).
The shop itself feels as though they figured out a long time ago how to do things right in a bakery & have not found the need to improve upon it. And I completely agree. Dinkel's does it right.
