Love the Memories
My grandmother lived on Paulina near Addison and this was her favorite bakery. Although my grandmother baked many of her own breads and cakes - as she got older it was more difficult for her to bake. So I remember my mom, sister and I would pick up a loaf of the fresh bread and often a chocoate layer cake and bring it to grandma's house.
Today my 19 year old daughter and I drove past Dinkel's Bakery on our way down Lincoln Avenue. I told her the stories of my grandmother and on our way home she asked me to stop at the bakery. It has been a while since we have been in this neighborhood. Of course we bought the chocolate chip butter cookies - my favorite.
My mom(who will be 85 in September) is living in a retirement home so I plan on bringing her some of the chocolate chip cookies tomorrow. I know she will enjoy them as they will bring back memories of the "old neighborhood".

Childhood Memories of Dinkels!
I just wanted to tell you that I grew up in Chicago on the northwest side and my family and I were customers of Dinkels for many yrs till my parents retired and I moved to Crystal Lake. All my birthday cakes were from there as were all our baked goods my mother would buy. My favorite were the butter cookies with choc sprinkles on the one end. And of cours the choc chip butter cookies! I requested a catalog. I hope to sometime soon get back in the city and hope it will be when you are open. And of course the layer cake-devils food with your signature lt choc frosting on it! Awesome! Thank you for being a great bakery and glad you are still going strong all these years later! I will always have the best memories of growing up in Chicago and getting our cakes and cookies at Dinkels!!

Your Bakery
When I was a kid (I am 65 now) my grandmother lived in the building just to the north of you, 3333 Lincoln Ave. Everyday my grandmother would drop a kleenex with some change in it to get a couple of hard rolls at your family bakery.
What a great memory for me. I am telling you this because my brother found your website and sent the link to me.
Now I live in the far northern suburbs. I sure miss all the wonderful smells.
